IBF Statistical Forecasting Workshop in London

The Institute of Business Forecasting & Planning (IBF) will bring “Statistical Forecasting—A Hands-On Workshop” to London on 12-13 May 2008. Designed for professionals of all levels, attendees will learn how to maximize their success in the forecasting and planning function by focusing on the quantitative and qualitative aspects of forecasting.

This structured two-day workshop offers seven interactive sessions on topics ranging from an introduction to business forecasting to overviews of various forecasting models that will help you make better estimates of demand. The workshop will conclude with an opportunity to practice the enhanced skill-set, knowledge, and techniques for intelligent and accurate forecasting.                                                             

According to Anish Jain, Managing Director of the IBF, "You don't have to be a high-powered statistician or mathematician to benefit from this workshop. Attendees of the hands-on workshop will learn step by step:

  • What to look for in the data before preparing forecasts
  • How to analyze and treat data before using your ERP system
  • How to treat data when "problems" are recognized
  • How to prepare forecasts using different models and techniques
  • Know when each forecast is appropriate
  • How to use forecasts effectively after they are prepared

The leader of this workshop, Barry Keating, Ph.D., is the Jesse H. Jones Professor of Business Economics at the University of Notre Dame, where he teaches a graduate course on business forecasting. He has done extensive research in the areas of quantitative methods of forecasting. Dr. Keating speaks regularly on business forecasting at IBF conferences and tutorials and has published more than 50 articles in professional journals and trade publications. He is co-author of the book, Business Forecasting, and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame, an M.A. from Lehigh University, and a B.B.A. from the University of Notre Dame. "Our experienced instructor will walk you through every step, from analyzing and treating data to preparing and using forecasts," Said Jain. The workshop in London can also be used as preparation for the Quantitative Problems on the IBF Certification Exams for CPF® and/or ACPFTM being held on 14 May.
